Punta Umbria

Punta Umbria is the biggest seaside town which enjoys quite a privileged location which is on a blessed piece of land that stretches between the mouth of the rivers Tinto and Odiel and the Atlantic Ocean . It is about 16 kilometers from the capital of the Province and has a fast growing population of 15,000 which grows bigger ever time it s the summer season mainly because of the size and quality of the beaches here as well as the tourist services. Punta Umbría is a place flocked by visitors from all over the world because everything here seems to be bathed in golden sunshine having its own unique special quality of light. Along with this, the town also boasts of more or less 12km of fine, golden sands in beaches with clear, clean waters of the Atlantic. It is considered by many as the most developed beach area especially because it is the one with the highest quality of services and facilities. The area is also as wide and spacious as those which come before or after the area. It gets a lot of visitors owing up to the growing commercial establishments in the area. Around here, there are many comfortable happy bars as well as restaurants and refreshment stands. In here you can enjoy a cool refreshing drink any time of the day. Services on offer here also include a lot of water sports like windsurfing and there are also plenty of different places for you to park your vehicles close to the shores.

The beach itself has been granted the Blue flag award by the European Union. One thing that distinguishes Punta Umbría from the other beaches around is the Ría that also forms a part of the estuary of the Tinto and Odiel rivers which flows down into the sea. As for beauty spots, you can take a walk through the los Enebrales natural park where you are allowed to enjoy the beautiful local scenery where much of nature s beauty can be seen still unspoiled here. Amidst the glorious nature here you can bask under the junipers, broom, pine trees and a rich diversity of fauna. There s also the El Portil lagoon that is formed by the blocking up of several streams because of the shifting dunes. This site here is the abode of one of the biggest colonies of chameleons in the vast expanse in the west coast of Huelva .

Punta Umbria is other than its great beach qualifications, a fairly large resort that has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants around a fishing port. The town mainly contains a bustling fishing port and within its immediate surroundings are beautiful natural scenic areas with the likes of the La Laguna de El Portil (El Portil lake), Los Enebrales (juniper tree groves), and the Marismas del Odiel (Odiel marshes). Both the busy fishing town of Isla Cristina as well as the city of Huelva are close by and coordinating with each other. As for the resorts, the newly developing Spanish resorts along the Costa de la Luz are only 25 kms away from the Portuguese border. There are miles of golden sandy beaches with a golf course together with the adjoining village of La Antilla which also offers a good selection of restaurants and bars.

The Marina is located on the waters of the estuary which is right in the central part of town. It was opened in year 2002 and has ever since provided the town with a display of modern facilities and services which make the comfortable practice of sailing, sea-fishing and a lot of challenging water sports.

Going on f urther away from the town, towards the La Bota beach, is a 2km long stretch of sand dunes called the El Paraje Natural los Enebrales . In here it is possible to find a more quiet spot to enjoy and which you can easily reach by the footpath and cycle way which both runs parallel to the beach. The pure and unpolluted state of the beach is the foremost reason why Punta Umbría has received the Blue flag over and over again. It is without doubt, one of the best beaches in Spain.

As for the town s surroundings, along the Huelva Costa de la Luz there is a busy beachgoers avenue from both Sevilla and Huelva city during the summer. In here, there is a vibrant nightlife with lots of late-night bars and clubs to hang around with just when the sun goes down. If you have plans going outside town, the beach nearest the town is the Playa La Mata Negra which is a wide and sandy beach with good facilities. In here, services offered include parasols and sun loungers for rent, toilets, showers, and lifeguards. There are also lots of great restaurants and bars in this stretch as well as a swell view of the beach and sea. Also nearby is another important Nature Reserve which is called the Marismas del Odiel. This is a marsh-based ecosystem that has a tidal dynamic which is made into a comfortable home to a vast diversity of numerous species of plants together with some significant colonies of birds, especially the colorful flamingos .
