Ayamonte is known for its mix of palm fringed squares with pedestrian walkways and cute little cobbled alleys. It s surely a quaint and small town to get lost in. However, should you ever lose your way indeed, lift your head up and sniff the strong aroma of rich gastronomy and I m sure you ll end up in some comfortable dining place.
Cafés and bars abound around this town, particularly in Plaza de la Laguna. With their tables and gaily-colored sunshades bursting out onto the pavements, you ll get your way around town and fall in love with it. There is always an offering to the weary and hungry visitor, the chance to enjoy a day out and dine along a pretty tree-lined square; Perhaps, to sit on comfortably and maybe sip some coffee and soak up in the inviting atmosphere. The whole area is so typically Spanish and the gastronomy speaks for itself. The nearest place to grab something to eat may take you to a fast food with the local 'tapas' bars. There are also the beautiful cities of Seville, Cadiz and Granada which are easily within reach. Further on, there is a beautiful promenade along the harbor which is called the Paseo de la Ribera. This is lined with palm trees where the town has its daily fish market and outdoor venue perfect for a BBQ. There are also many superb fish and tapas dishes you can sample on this occasion. Sure enough, the residents are very friendly and welcoming.
